Edit… (by marc)
Well people, after being there for the weekend, I can recommend you this unique theater festival. While big festivals nowadays have 3 to 6 or even 7 stages, Oerol must have at least 60 by turning the intire island into a stage.
Because of the little time I was there, discovering the island was my main objective, this way I got the chance to meet the one character all plays share… and I can say it’s a pity Zita Swoon played at ‘Het Groene Strand’ (the green beach), for it is one of the less inspiring locations.
Anyway, they sort of closed the final festival day with an 5pm gig (like I said, It’s an island … ferry’s must fear the moonlight)… and it was a good one, who opened with a new instrumental song called Qu’est-ce que je veux (translation: what do I want). It sounds the way kick off songs should, sucking all attention and acompanied with a roar it shares with my vacuum cleaner (or so I tend to remember).
Ice Guitars came pretty early in the set and sounded like … a work in progress. I liked what Amel did on percussion and the way Stef sometimes nearly whispered… but something definetely went wrong at the start and later on in the song when Joris’ keyboard and some low guitar tones merged into a mess (and they knew it). Lucky enough People are like slamming doors followed and confirmed it’s A+ status.
Stamina closed the regular set in it’s own energetic way, leaving the audience sheering for more…
The band gave us Still half my friend.
Some pics: most of them I took during soundcheck
